2011 has begun well for CW…

The biggest news is that we have received ISO9001 accreditation for our quality management systems – official recognition of our commitment to customer service and continuous improvement.

We achieved accreditation at the first attempt and the external auditor singled out the quality of our documentation for special praise.

“This is a major vote of confidence in what we do and how we do it,” said managing director Nigel Curtis. “It’s rewarding for us to know our hard work meets the highest standards, but more importantly it is reassurance for our clients that we always deliver on our promises.”

Tangible evidence of this came when we heard this month that two of the employee publications we produce for clients Premier Foods and Central Networks, part of E.ON UK, were successful in this year’s Institute of Internal Communication Central Region Awards.

On the business front, we’ve already seen a 20% upturn year on year with extra work coming in from existing clients such as Toshiba, Rolls Royce and bizzybee™, and new clients for whom we are working on both internal and marketing communication projects.

Finally, congratulations are due to our business change manager Melissa Leong who not only masterminded our ISO9001 accreditation, but has just been awarded Chartered Manager status by the Chartered Management Institute, in large part for the difference she has made to CW’s financial and business processes since joining 18 months ago.

Nigel said:

“Melissa is a qualified accountant and MBA which proves she knows the theory, but you have to show how you are using it in the real world and getting results to achieve Chartered Manager status. It’s a great achievement for her which is also benefiting CW and our clients.”

CW has signalled its ambitions by hiring two new members of staff to boost the editorial team.

Olly Forrester joined in September as editorial account manager and Tim Marklew was taken on in November as junior copywriter.

Olly arrived at CW after four years working at Caramba Marketing in Birmingham; he previously graduated from Birmingham University in 2005 with a first class honours degree in history.

He has already taken on responsibility for producing Toshiba’s employee publication YOU, and is managing PR and social media content for one of CW’s newest clients, bizzybee™ as well as providing writing support for other key clients.

“It’s been very enjoyable. There’s a good mixture of work between journalism, PR and copywriting and I’m always busy. There is also a good atmosphere in the office, which is important,”

New junior copywriter Tim Marklew comes with an upper second class degree in journalism and media studies that he gained from Coventry University in 2009.

“I’m very happy to be the newest member of a strong team. I’m sure it will be a steep learning curve but I am looking forward to the challenge.”

Away from work they both share a passion for music. Olly plays drums in his band ‘Is I Cinema’ and Tim writes music reviews and articles.

Creative juices are in fuller flow than usual at CW following news that the agency has won a major contract to develop the consumer marketing campaign for cleaning products experts, bizzybee™.

The work will showcase CW’s external communication credentials and utilise the team’s growing digital and social media expertise.

bizzybee™ is the new consumer venture from BM Polyco Ltd, who have been one of Europe’s leading glove suppliers to the retail, industrial, medical, engineering and construction sectors for years.

Their new range of rubber gloves and cloths are available in all leading retailers and CW’s challenge is to raise bizzybee’s brand awareness and drive sales.

BM Polyco consumer marketing manager Irene Martinez said:

“We are thrilled to be working with CW. Their pitch team took us on a journey and excited us with their ideas for a two-year integrated marketing plan. We were impressed with their enthusiasm and the product and market knowledge they had gained during the very short time they had to research it.”

CW business development director Nigel Clegg added:

“It’s an exciting project which gives us an opportunity to extend our existing skills. It will be a fully integrated marketing campaign centred around a strong digital presence and social media creative. It’s a great product too, bringing personality and choice to a household cleaning sector in desperate need of some fun.”

You can check out bizzybee™ on Facebook and Twitter here.

CW has strengthened its creative offer by snapping up an exciting young designer for its award-winning design team.

Sarah Carter joined CW in May and in her first few weeks has already showed her creativity on a range of projects, from i-PDFs and corporate branding exercises to employee magazines and newsletters.

The 23-year-old graduated from Birmingham University's Institute of Art and Design with a First Class Honours degree in Visual Communication in 2009. For the past year, she has been working as a freelance graphic designer, including redesigning her former University's prospectuses, as well as some of its internal and external comms.

Sarah said: “One of the things I love about design is the variety of the work, and my first few weeks have definitely been varied!

“Everything you see has been designed in some way and I think it's a real responsibility to work as a designer and get it right. When I'm not designing, I'm usually thinking about it or blogging about it.

“Other than that, I enjoy reading and also trying out a few new cooking recipes, mainly involving curry.”

CW’s 2010 client satisfaction survey provided a ringing endorsement with 100% of respondents happy to recommend the agency’s work.

“It obviously doesn’t get any better than that and our challenge now is to maintain it and ensure we continue to exceed client expectations,” says business development director Nigel Clegg.

A key objective of the survey was to determine the importance clients place on a number of different values and the extent to which CW measures up to them.

“Perhaps unsurprisingly in the current climate, Value for Money was judged most important followed by Experience of Agency Staff, Design Flair and Project Management,” said Nigel. “We’re delighted to report that in these four areas our clients say we exceed their expectations, and in all others we meet expectations.”

Moving forward, clients identified hot topics for the future as measuring the effectiveness of communications and embracing digital communications (selected by 59% and 37% of respondents respectively) – both areas where CW is actively involved and developing new tools.

Among the positive comments received from respondents were:

“Lots of agencies provide good design and a good service but CW stands out as providing a better relationship and better interaction from a client focus perspective”

“I trust CW always to deliver a good result with a minimum of fuss”

“Always deliver and don’t rip you off!”

And in response to the question, “Has your opinion of CW changed in the past 12 months?” one client put:

“I didn’t know CW 12 months ago and my opinion has certainly changed…now they are an agency I trust and love to work with.”

The survey was emailed as an interactive-PDF to all current clients in the first quarter of 2010. For more information on our survey or to conduct your own employee or client survey please contact Nigel Clegg
